Empress Ki Written Update on Wednesday 24th August, 2016

Wednesday on Empress ki episode 46
In between his tears, Eunuch Bang
explained to Lady Ki that Maha was her
son. He begged for her to save Maha
since someone would try to kill the prince
later that night. He thought that Maha
was such a pitiful child and it was only
Sungnyang who could protect him.
“Maha… is Star. Your son. Wang Yu’s
son. He is alive! Maha has the three stars
on his foot and I saw them with my own
eyes.” This made Sungnyang realize that
Eunuch Bang was indeed telling the truth
since very few people knew of her child’s
birthmark.
Sungnyang was in tears upon learning
that her son, Star, is alive. However, she
would have to act quickly if she wanted to
protect him.

Later that night, Prince Maha was at the
temple conducting the memorial for his
ancestors. As planned, Yom Byongsu and
his men attacked the guards.
The guards shouted that they were being
attacked by assassins which alerted the
people inside the temple, including Dok-
man and Maha. Dok-man told the Prince
to escape first but the assassins saw him
running away. In the scuffle, Dok-man
found a ring that fell from one of the
assassins and immediately recognized it
as the Empress’ ring. Yom Byongsu
turned the ring into a pendant in order to
remember his beloved Yeon-hwa, who
had given it to him.
Maha tried to escape but ran into Lady Ki
on his way out. Lady Ki instructed Maha
to come closer to her. However, Yom
Byongsu soon caught-up and told Maha
to go to him instead since he was there
on Tangqishi’s order.
Poor Maha was confused and did not
know whom to trust. He decided to walk
towards Yom Byongsu. Dok-man
suddenly yelled at him to go to Lady Ki
instead of the assassins.
Prince Maha decided to turn around and
ran towards Lady Ki but it was too late.
Yom Byongsu shot the prince with an
arrow and hit him at the back.
Sungnyang held Maha in her arms, crying
at the sight of her child in pain. She
comforted Maha and told him not to
worry since he was with her now. Maha
asked Lady Ki why she was crying in front
of him but soon passed-out.
Sungnyang cried as she called her son’s
name…. “Maha, stay with me. Maha!
Sweetie stay with me…Maha!”

Meanwhile..Ta-hwan ran towards the
palace gate when an arrow suddenly
grazed him by the shoulder. He turned
around and saw Sungnyang with an
another arrow aimed at him.
Sungnyang wanted Ta-hwan dead to
avenge Wang Yu’s death. “You killed
Wang Yu and trampled on my heart.
Wang Yu was the only man whom I have
loved. Slayer of my king. I will never
forgive you.” accused Sungnyang as she
shot the arrow from her bow right into
Ta-hwan’s heart…
Ta-hwan woke-up sweating in fear as he
tried to catch his breath…. It was just
another nightmare. He wanted to go to
Lady Ki’s quarters but changed his plan.
Instead, he ordered Eunuch Golta to bring
him pen and paper. His mind was clearly
disturbed. He wanted to write to
Sungnyang and tell her how he felt.

Dok-man was able to take the arrow from
Maha’s back but found out that it was
laced with poison. The crisis may have
passed but they would still have to
observe Maha. If the poison did not reach
Maha’s vital organs, there is a good
chance that he would survive.
Sungnyang looked so distraught that it
made Dok-man wonder. Eunuch Bang’s
worried look didn’t escape his attention
either. He pressed Eunuch Bang for the
reason why Lady Ki was so upset and
cried buckets of tears towards her own
son’s rival. Eunuch Bang chose not to tell
him the truth for the time being. He was
saved from Dok-man’s interrogation when
Eunuch Park arrived to report that the
assassins escaped.

Sungnyang finally had the chance to
verify Maha’s birthmark.
Prince Maha was indeed her son, Star….
She recalled the moment when she gave
birth to him in a cave. She told him not to
worry since she would protect him just
like Sungnyang’s mother protected her.
But fate had other plans for the baby.
Sungnyang lost her child when an enemy
accidentally grabbed onto the baby’s linen
as he fell off a cliff; taking the baby along
with him.
Sungnyang apologized to her son for
losing him and for not being there to
protect him. Worse, she did not recognize
him when he was just standing right in
front of her. She even hated him and did
not do anything for him, her son, her
Star. Sungnyang cried, full of remorse,
unsure of how she can protect her child
now.

Empress Bayan had a rendezvous with
Yom Byongsu in an empty shed.
Yom Byongsu reported the outcome of
the assassination attempt on Maha. The
prince was shot with an arrow from the
back and would probably not make it. He
has bad news though. Lady Ki showed up
at the temple.
The Empress just smiled and ordered
Yom Byongsu to spread the rumour that
men from Koryo attacked the prince. Lady
Ki’s presence at the temple would be a
perfect ploy to destroy her completely.

At the palace, Taltal informed Ta-hwan
that he couldn’t find Wang Yu’s corpse.
He added that if Wang Yu was still alive,
he would probably head straight to Koryo.
Chancellor Bayan was quick to suggest
that Lady Ki might be involved but Ta-
hwan cautioned him from further
accusing Lady Ki. Instead, he ordered
Taltal to behead Wang Yu as soon as he
reached Koryo.
Their discussion was interrupted with the
Empress Dowager’s arrival. She had bad
news. Prince Maha was attacked by men
from Koryo and was hit with a poisoned
arrow at the memorial shrine. Lady Ki was
at the temple when the incident happened
which makes her the prime suspect.
Everyone knew that Lady Ki would do
anything just to get rid of her son’s
competitor to the throne.
Court Lady Seo reported the news to
Empress Bayan who acted as if it was the
first time that she had heard about it and
even offered a silent prayer to the
buddha.
She thought of wearing the ring that was
given to her by Ta-hwan but it was
nowhere to be found. She searched
frantically for it and even asked Court
Lady Seo if she had seen it.

Meanwhile, Prince Maha was escorted
back to the palace but he was still weak.
Even Ta-hwan looked worried at his
injured son and refused to hear the
Dowager’s ranting about Lady Ki.
He went to visit Maha and was about to
hold the child’s hand but stopped mid-
way.
He realized that he had no memories of
ever holding Maha’s hand. He told Dok-
man to keep his visit a secret from Maha,
since he did not want to give the boy false
hopes.
Empress Bayan approached Sungnyang
and expressed her anxiety regarding the
rumour that Lady Ki had something to do
with the assassination attempt on Maha’s
life. Sungnyang thanked Empress Bayan
for her concern but, as soon as she left,
Sungnyang opened her hand to reveal the
Empress’ ring.
Dok-man gave it to her which she
immediately recognized the Empress’
ring. He told Sungnyang that if fell from
Yom Byongsu during the attack at the
temple. It was proof that Yom Byongsu
was indeed working under Empress
Bayan’s order
Ta-hwan waited for Sungnyang at her
chambers. He wanted to hear her
explanation on why Sungnyang was at the
temple the night Prince Maha got hit with
an arrow. He knew that she would do
anything for Ayu’s sake. Sungnyang
swore to the gods that it wasn’t her. She
would reveal the real culprit in front of
everyone and asked Ta-hwan to allow her
to name the punishment. If she failed, Ta-
hwan could do whatever he deemed fit.

Everyone gathered at the throne hall and
waited for Lady Ki to state her case. This
pissed the Empress Dowager who
immediately stood up to protest. Lady Ki
should be questioned and forced to
confess.
“I saved Prince Maha’s life.” Sungnyang
declared. The Empress Dowager tried to
oppose Sungnyang’s every word and
accused her of lying. Sungnyang
defended herself, she would not lie
knowing that the prince would wake up.
She showed them the Empress’ ring that
was dropped by the assassin. Ta-hwan
recognized the ring that he gave to the
Empress. He demanded the Empress to
explain but instead, she accused
Sungnyang of stealing her ring in order to
put the blame on her. Sungnyang said
that it was not her evidence and pointed
at Dok-man who found the ring.
Dok-man testified that he got the ring
from the person who tried to assassinate
the Prince. When the Emperor asked if he
saw the assassin’s face, Dok-man replied
that it was the former captain of the
guard, Yom Byongsu. Empress Bayan
needed to think quickly in order to cover-
up her crime.
She accused Dok-man of conniving with
Lady Ki since they were both from Koryo.
Lady Ki was the person behind the
rumours that were piling up against Koryo
and the assassination attempt on Prince
Maha’s life. The Empress Dowager
demanded that Lady Ki and all the
servants from Koryo be arrested.
“The Empress is lying,” announced
Emperor Ta-hwan. Lady Ki would never
work with Yom Byongsu since he was her
mortal enemy.
Cornered, Empress Bayan denied the she
knew Yom Byongsu but Sungnyang
requested for Court Lady Seo to tell the
truth. Everyone’s eyes were on Court Lady
Seo, who testified that the Empress had
indeed met with Yom Byongsu. However,
it never occurred to her that they were
plotting to kill the prince.
As Empress Bayan was being dragged
away, she asked her uncle to help her.
Chancellor Bayan and Taltal just looked
away in shame. No one opposed Ta-
hwan’s decision this time.
Chancellor Bayan wanted to say
something but Ta-hwan stopped him. As
agreed earlier, he would let Sungnyang
give the punishment to the Empress.
Sungnyang assured Chancellor Bayan
that she would treat the Empress fairly.
Sungnyang announced that the they were
not done yet. She had another
information to disclose: Maha was not
Tanashiri’s son.
A nun was escorted into the throne hall
who testified that she was there when the
baby was brought to the hermitage. In
tears, the nun recounted the time when
Tanashiri took the abandoned baby after
killing the nuns and burning down the
temple.
The Empress Dowager was so shocked
upon hearing that Maha was a fake
prince and passed out. This time, Ta-
hwan was unemotional and ordered that
the Empress Dowager be brought to the
doctor.

Prince Maha soon regained
consciousness but decided to close his
eyes when he heard someone coming.
His visitor was Lady Ki, who checked if
his fever had gone down. She ordered
Dok-man to tell the truth to Maha once he
woke up. Dok-man was hesitant but
Sungnyang said that it would be better if
Maha knew why he was being sent away.
Unable to hide his curiosity, Maha
immediately sat-up and asked what she
meant. Sungnyang controlled her feelings
and told Maha that he was not the
Emperor and Tanashiri’s son. Maha was
in tears as he asked Sungnyang where his
real parents were. Sungnyang was on the
verge of crumbling but she willed herself
to tell Maha that he was just an
abandoned child found in the hills. The
poor boy kept crying which broke
Sungnyang’s heart.
Sungnyang grasped Maha by his
shoulders and ordered him to stop crying
and come to his senses. She told Maha to
remember what she was about to say,
“Since he had no one to protect him, he
should remain strong and expect nothing
from anyone. That’s how he would
survive.”
Sungnyang walked away just before a
tear fell from her eyes. She stood outside
and listened to Maha’s woeful sobs.
Sungnyang finally let go of her emotions
and cried with him. She thought of the
words that she really wanted to tell him,
“Star, my son. This is all I can do for you.
Hold on a little longer, my son.”

Moo-sung, Jeombakyi, and Suri were
headed towards Chonsutap valley where
they were supposed to meet up with
Wang Yu and Onbisu.
At the Yuan Border, Onbisu cooked some
meat for Wang Yu who noticed that there
was a smudge on her face. Wang Yu tried
to clean it for her but she stopped him
from doing so. She felt embarrassed that
she was caught with a smudge on her
face and decided to stand-up.
It was a good thing since it alerted her
that their enemies were not far behind. It
was Tangqishi, who was more than eager
to end Wang Yu’s life.
Since they were not that far from
Chonsutap, Onbisu told Wang Yu to drive
the wagon while she tried to hold them
off. Wang Yu protested and wanted to
fight with her but Onbisu was firm. Wang
Yu had not yet recovered from his
wounds. She told him to promise that he
would never to look back whatever
happened.
Tangqishi and his men chased them. As
agreed, Wang Yu drove the wagon while
Onbisu tried to shoot the enemies with her
arrows. She was able to kill a few and
decided to throw one of the barrels at
Tangqishi’s men. Tangqishi fell off his
horse which ended the chase but not after
Onbisu got shot with several arrows.
As soon as it was safe, Wang Yu stopped
the wagon and checked on Onbisu. She
was at the brink of death. Wang Yu was
so worried as he held her in her arms but
Onbisu was more worried about the
smudge on her face. Wang Yu gently
wiped it off. Onbisu thanked Wang Yu and
told him that she had always imagined
them together. She also hoped that she
would die in his arms. She got her wish
and told Wang Yu not to cry. She asked
him to think of her every now and then….
With that final words, Onbisu passed
away. Wang Yu was overcome with grief
as he shook Onbisu and tried to wake her
up.
Wang Yu and his men buried Onbisu.
Suri, Onbisu’s assistant, told Wang Yu
that Onbisu had always loved him. Moo-
sung gave Onbisu’s lipstick case to Wang
Yu. She was indeed a fine woman who
cherished Wang Yu in her heart. Wang Yu
recalled the conversation he had with
Onbisu where she asked if she could stay
in Koryo. He wondered why she needed
his permission to do so but she promised
to tell him the reason once they reached
Koryo.
Without explaining, Wang Yu told his men
that they would head back to Yuan.

Back at the palace, Chancellor Bayan met
with Sungnyang and told her that he
would not stop Ayu from being crowned
as the Yuan heir.
Sungnyang knew that he was trying to
negotiate regarding Bayan’s issue but she
does not need his help. She was surprised
though at how far Chancellor Bayan
would go for his clan. It was already
decided, the Empress would be deposed
and lose her crown.
Chancellor Bayan told Sungnyang to
forget that he once promised to protect
her. Sungnyang just laughed it off, saying
that it was her who has to protect him
now.
Dok-man had the former Empress Bayan
stripped and dragged out of her chamber.
She still hoped that her uncle would come
to her aid but he just ordered her not to
shame herself further and looked away.
The Imperial edict was read deposing the
former empress for her crimes against
the state. Sungnyang smiled victoriously
at the frowning Chancellor Bayan while
Taltal silently witnessed their exchange.

Yom Byongsu and Jo-cham were
surprised to see the Empress on her way
out of the palace, deposed. Jo-cham was
worried that now they have no one to turn
to.
Suddenly, Tangqishi showed up from
behind and wielded his sword on Yom
Byongsu’s neck. He wanted to kill Yom
Byongsu for planning to get rid of his
nephew, Prince Maha. Yom Byongsu told
him that Maha wasn’t Tanashiri’s son
which came as a shock to Tangqishi.
Maha was not his real nephew.

“Maha was a fake?” Wang Yu asked. He
was surprised to learn about Maha’s true
identity. His men told him that the child
would soon be sent out of the palace.
Eunuch Bang asked Wang Yu why he
wanted to return to Yuan. With Onbisu’s
death, Wang Yu wanted to find out the
real identity of the Eagle Group’s Leader.
Coincidentally, that leader was having a
meeting with his men.
“The time had come for us to claim our
land!” proclaimed the assistant as read
their leader’s command.

Back at the palace, Sungnyang went to
the Empress Dowager’s quarters to offer
her some medicine but the Empress
Dowager refused to accept anything from
her.
She demanded to know when Sungnyang
found out that Maha was a fake. The
Empress Dowager was in tears after
being played for a fool. Sungnyang
reminded the Empress Dowager that she
just saved her from making a grave
mistake knowing that she valued the
purity of the imperial line.
The Empress Dowager gave a rude
remark which made Sungnyang caution
her. Ayu was now the crown prince,
making her the Empress Regent.
Sungnyang told the Empress Dowager to
be careful when addressing her.
Dok-man arrived to inform them that
Maha was waiting outside. He wanted to
pay his respects to the Empress Dowager
before he left the palace but she refused
to see him.
Sungnyang went outside to inform Maha
that the Empress Dowager did not wish to
see him. Ta-hwan joined them in front of
the Empress Dowager’s quarters and
asked whether it’s time for Maha to take
his leave. Maha was still addressing Ta-
hwan as his father but soon realized his
mistake and corrected himself.
Ta-hwan assured Maha that he did
nothing wrong and it was all his fault.
Maha asked Ta-hwan to kindly convey his
gratitude to the Empress Dowager for
raising him. Ta-hwan and Sungnyang
watched as he bowed in front of the
Empress Dowager’s doorstep and paid
his respect.
Ta-hwan went in to see the Empress
Dowager and chided her for being cruel.
She reared Maha like her own child only
to dismiss him like a rag because he was
useless.
Ta-hwan recalled the time when he was
treated the same way and sent to Koryo
when his brother was proclaimed an
emperor. However, when it was Ta-
hwan’s turn to be named an emperor, the
Empress Dowager was all smiles like
nothing happened.
The Empress Dowager blamed everything
on Sungnyang. On the contrary, Ta-hwan
thought that Sungnyang was a lot
different from the Empress Dowager.
Suddenly, Ta-hwan recalled his nightmare
where Sungnyang confessed her love for
Wang Yu. It shook him to the core and
made him stumble. His head ached. The
Empress Dowager immediately rushed
towards him and tried to help.

Sungnyang brought Maha to a temporary
residence and said that he would now be
under her protection. She ordered him to
behave if he did not want to face her
wrath. Sungnyang told him that she
expects him to grow in wisdom and
strength.
On her way out, Sungnyang reminded
Court Lady Seo that her loyalty to Maha
kept her alive. She instructed Court Lady
Seo to bring Maha to Koryo once he had
recovered. She wanted Maha as far away
as possible and promised Court Lady Seo
that she would set her free once she had
fulfilled her obligations.
To Eunuch Park, Sungnyang ordered him
to find a good home for Maha in Koryo.
Eunuch Bang over-heard the arrangement
and was pleased with it.
Wang Yu’s men were glad to hear from
Eunuch Bang that Maha had finally left
the palace. Jeombakyi asked if Lady Ki
now knew that Maha was her son.
Eunuch Bang said ‘yes’ and warned
everyone not to tell Wang Yu about it. Too
late, Wang Yu overheard them. He
demanded to know what they meant
when they said that Maha was his son.

Back at the palace, the court gathered to
celebrate a happy occasion. Both parents
looked adoringly at the cute Ayu as he
entered the throne hall.
Emperor Ta-hwan officially declared
Ayushiridara as crown prince and heir to
the throne.
Crown Prince Ayu smiled as everyone
hailed the Emperor’s decision.
…while Chancellor Bayan and the
Empress Dowager fumed with anger;
unable to accept the fact that the Emperor
just made a half-Koryo breed be an heir
to the Yuan’s throne.

Later that day, Chancellor Bayan met with
the Empress Dowager and tried to
convince her that they have to get rid of
Sungnyang.
The Empress Dowager was wary this time
since even El Temur was not able to kill
Sungnyang. Any foolish action would
mean their death but Chancellor Bayan
had a plan….and Taltal happened to be
within hearing distance…
Sungnyang met with the provincial
governors and was congratulated for
becoming the Crown Prince’s mother/
Empress Regent. However, Sungnyang
was aware that there were still people in
the palace who wanted Crown Prince Ayu
and herself dead.
She would have to get rid of Chancellor
Bayan and the Empress Dowager
