Ashanti-NDC Strongholds Fall For Npp

In less than a month after over two hundred hardcore crowd pullers of the ruling National Democratic Congress defected to the NPP, causing panic and cracks to the ranks and file of the governing party and crumbling their fairy-tales of securing one million electoral votes in the Ashanti Region in 2016, the ruling party is also fast losing its grip on their strongholds in the region.

Particularly in areas such as Patuokrom, Akwasiase, Siawkrom, Subriso, Akwadaanyame, Nnumasua, Mfante and Fawobotoso, all in the Ahafo Ano-Noth constituency which were before now pro-NDC areas; have now openly declared support for the opposition party, promising their collective and active participation in all campaigns, in anticipation of a sweeping victory in 2016 for Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP.

The NPP has never won national elections in any of the polling stations in those areas since 1992; however they are ready to ‘make amends this time since the NDC has never recognized our support to them all these years,” some leaders in those town stated.

Thanks to a project dubbed “Sankofa” (Rescuing Mission) by an NPP group called Strong room for Truth and Justice, the governing party seemed to be in trouble, as STAJ-support base has managed to get some key leaders in those NDC-towns to their side.

For the past weeks, the group has been working in the Ahafo-Ano North of the Ashanti region, preaching the good messages of Nana Addo and the NPP to the constituents with the help of the constituency executives.

STAJ started on a WhatsApp platform with NPP youth across Ghana as the core membership. They intend to unite and forge a strong front, purposely to work in areas that have been hostile to the NPP during elections, and make sure the party becomes attractive to the people in those areas before December 2016.

The Chairman of the group, Nana Adu-Poku Frefre, told this reporter that the fight for victory in 2016 general election does not rest on Nana Addo alone and therefore everyone should be ready to play any role to get that victory.
